The magazine uses a monochrome colour. This choice of colour connotes serious despite her smile contrasting with the feel. Joni Mitchell is making eye contact directly with the camera. She is going against the normal MOJO type cover with it generally being older white males not smiling or looking at the camera. The choice of a female shows difference within the cover. 

 

The language used is very emotive and tries to entice the viewer at all costs. It uses words such as 'born of tragedy' and 'The untold story'. This shows that MOJO have exclusive information about these musicians and generally use action packed words to describe them.
