Q8

Analyse the use of media language to create meaning.

The dark outlined banner at the top suggests to the reader that this is where you go to fit your type of story such as 'sport' or 'politics'. The pink selected stories highlight that they are different to ordinary stories. The purple shows the reader which stories are important and popular, it also shows some serious stories, such as 'can i forgive the man that raped me?'

The overall layout of the website is very clean and oragnised. The news stories are organised into catagories such as sport, politics, culture etc. With this clean layout this makes it easier for viewers including the ederlly so if the wanted to move to a digital interface it would make it more simple for them.

  1. Mark 1 out of 5 "Give two examples" for 5 marks
    • Your opening sentence is rather odd. Just identify this as the banner headline. Then analyse the font and colour. You start to make points in your second paragraph about 'clean and organised' style but have not said HOW this is achieved.

Comment on the use of a dark blue colour for the header to connote serious, sober, objective news
    • use of a limited colour pallet – house colours of royal blue and a wine purple – suggest an organised and formal paper
    • a bold, sans-serif, white on blue mostly lower case font for the title connotes a modern and confident paper
    • use of a serif typeface for the headings connotes formality and objectivity

    • the highly ordered layout of the home page, use of white as a background, and fairly limited use of photographs and graphics minimises visual clutter and connotes seriousness and objectivity
the language use includes both personal and third person statements but creates an overall objective mode of address
